For those of you who also follow Portland’s start-up scene, the Leftbank project on the east side has been receiving press throughout the year, and recently received more coverage from the Portland Tribune here. The project is intriguing for it’s objective — to house under one roof a group of creative, design and sustainable businesses, which are the types of businesses that already make up a large segment of Portland start-ups. Included among those businesses are bicycle companies, which have also been heavily featured in the local press lately, and which we wrote about recently. It’ll be interesting to see how the project turns out, considering the down economy and their east side location, which is out of the mainstream for the moment (until the Streetcar loop comes to their door maybe someday soon). One definite tenant to add cache to the project is the PDX Lounge, a partnership between the city and some local businesses to promote the city’s environmentally friendly achievements. And this last October Oregon Manifest already hosted a major hand built bike convention there, offering the project more momentum. We’re looking forward to seeing how the project turns out, and what other businesses it draws. So keep us updated if you hear of anything.
